In addition to regional Fresh Market locations, the plant-based company Spero has announced the launch of several of its cheese products at Kroger shops across the US.
Several Kroger-owned markets, including Ralph’s Grocery, King Soopers, QFC, and Fred Meyer, will offer Spero’s Sunflower Cream Cheese for the first time. The Original and The Herb varieties of the company’s sunflower seed cream cheese will be available.
Additionally, the business is opening Fresh Market locations in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and North Carolina. Three products—The Original, The Herb, and The Goat—a plant-based substitute for goat cheese—are being released.
By utilising scalable, effective components like sunflower seeds, Spero wants to make plant-based dairy products less expensive than conventional dairy.
Almonds, cashews, and soy, which are popular plant-based dairy ingredients, cannot directly compete with dairy, according to the firm, because their production and labour costs are greater. Contrarily, seeds are seven to eight times cheaper and can develop 50 to 70 times quicker than nuts.
The company’s product line also includes a liquid egg substitute manufactured from pepita seeds, as well as additional cream cheeses in the flavours of Cheddar, Smoked, Pumpkin, and Strawberry.
