Even though electric vehicles (EVs) are increasing in popularity throughout the globe, complaints about their limited range and protracted charging times are still made.
Battery swapping is a long-used method that is more frequently employed for small electric vehicles like scooters.
Due to the fleets’ increased electrification and manufacturer competition, the problem of charging has once again come to light. Due to its success in micro-mobility vehicles like eScooters and eBikes, battery-swapping technology is now set to spur demand for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) after failing in earlier attempts.
Due to increasing investments and robust demand, the battery-swapping industry is expanding phenomenally on a global scale. One can wonder if battery swapping will eventually exceed smart technologies and supplant worldwide charging stations based on present initiatives.
The Taiwan EV battery swapping market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2026, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Gogoro, an e-mobility firm with headquarters in Taiwan, partnered with two of China’s top automakers to introduce their battery swapping technology to the mainland.
The first of Gogoro’s battery switching systems, which the company says it has created to go with its urban electric two-wheel scooters and mopeds, has been installed in Hangzhou, in eastern China.
The information comes after Gogoro revealed a collaboration with Yadea and the Dachangjiang Group (DCJ) to establish a battery swapping network in China.
Yadea is one of the major two-wheel vehicle manufacturers worldwide, while DCJ is the leading manufacturer of gas-powered two-wheel vehicles in China.
The battery swapping mechanism for Gogoro’s two-wheel vehicles, such as mopeds and scooters, was initially developed for those vehicles. Gogoro’s two-wheel cars are advertised as being “unstealable,” and they have a smart connection that enables app connectivity and over-the-air upgrades.
They can refuel by just changing the battery, which takes probably less than 30 seconds. Through their collaboration with Gogoro, Yadea and DCJ will also start creating their own line of two-wheel electric cars based on the Gogoro battery swapping technology.
According to Kymco, a Taiwanese company, Ionex Recharge is the first personalized energy refilling service in the world. It offers on-demand battery delivery and changing for electric scooters and motorcycles. At a predetermined time and location, passengers’ vehicles can have their batteries changed without their presence.
Riders may also sign up for a battery-swapping service that runs overnight so that they can drive a fully charged car the following morning.
