    GLOBAL TRACTION DRIVE FLUID MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

A specific lubricant for continuously variable transmissions is called traction drive fluid. The TDF product from Idemitsu is the result of more than 15 years spent in the lab in search of maximum performance. The term “traction drive” refers to a drive where the driving sheave is grooved in such a way as to transmit its motion to the suspension ropes through friction.

Traction drives function by employing normal force to generate usable rotational torque through multi-viscosity traction fluids. The motor is subjected to torque overloads during acceleration and when negotiating up hills. Large torque is required during start and acceleration in order to accelerate the heavy mass.

GLOBAL TRACTION DRIVE FLUID MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST

The global traction drive fluid market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.

    NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

The ideal option for automotive and industrial applications, Idemitsu’s TDF lubricant offers uncompromised performance with a high traction coefficient in a variety of circumstances.

Because of TDF’s tried-and-true dependability and engineered high performance, manufacturers may take full advantage of the benefits of engines with continuously variable transmissions.Compared to other traction fluids often used in industrial applications, TDF is less sensitive to temperature increases.

For automotive applications, TDF must also maintain a high traction coefficient even at high temperatures.TDF has an application range that is 20 degrees higher than that of industrial traction fluids, enabling it to operate better in the most difficult circumstances.

Technological advancements Hitachi Energy is delivering RESIBLOC Rail up to 25 kV with an integrated cooling system, substantially enhancing the technology’s potential.

    RECENT DEVELOPMENT

A composition of traction drive fluid that includes at least one polymer with a weight average molecular weight in the range of 8,000 to 40,000 selected from among hydrocarbon polymers each containing at least 10 mole of a monomer bearing a cyclic structure, hydrocarbon polymers each containing at least 25% of quaternary carbon atoms in the backbone chain, and hydrogenated products from the polymers.

The base oil for traction drives contains at least one selected from a qua Shear stability is excellent and the composition of the traction drive fluid is improved in viscosity index without lowering the traction coefficient below that of the base oil. The composition of a traction drive fluid, more specifically one with an improved viscosity index, excellent shear stability, and a traction coefficient that is comparable to that of a base oil, is the subject of the present invention.

A traction oil that is going to be used in a continuously variable transmission (CVT) must have a traction coefficient that is sufficiently higher than a lowest value in the range of working temperature, that is, the traction coefficient at a high temperature (140° C.) is sufficiently higher than a design value of a CVT. This is because a traction drive type CVT used for automobiles has a large torque transmission capacity and is used in harsh conditions.

In addition to serving as a regular lubricating oil in a CVT, the traction oil must have a low viscosity even at a low temperature for the sake of low temperature startup in cold regions like North America and North Europe. At the same time, it must have a high viscosity capable of maintaining sufficient oil films even at a high temperature to prevent friction and/or wear. That is to say, the traction oil must have a high viscosity index and minimal temperature-dependent viscosity variation.

The present inventors developed a high-performance base oil for traction that has a high traction coefficient at high temperatures, a high viscosity index, and has a high traction coefficient at high temperatures. The Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Number reveals 19698/1986, an improved viscosity index and traction coefficient traction oil composed of a base oil and a hydrogenation product of a thermoplastic resin with an aromatic ring blended into it.

Due to its low molecular weight and the fact that it is made up of a bicyclohexyl compound that is practically unsuitable for use as a base oil, however, it is impossible to determine from the practical application whether the composition is excellent or not. However, due to a lack of shear stability, it is difficult to use the same in traction oils under severe working conditions.
