GLOBAL TRAILER ON FLATCAR (TOFC) MARKEt
INTRODUCTION
Carrying semi-trailers on flatcars on railroads is a practise known as trailer on flatcar, also known as piggyback. Since one train can transport more than 100 trailers at once, TOFC enables shippers to transfer truckloads over long distances more affordably than they could by having each trailer carried by a truck.
The trailers will be transported by truck from their point of origin to an intermodal facility, where they will be loaded onto a train and carried the majority of the way by a rubber-tired gantry crane.
Alternately, a terminal tractor can move trailers onto the flatcars using ramps. The trailers are loaded at a different facility close to the destination, and a tractor unit transports them to their final location.
Containerization is not the same as TOFC. Both are forms of intermodal transport, but while containerization separates the container from the trailer chassis for railroad transit, trailer on flatcar refers to loading whole trailers onto railroad cars. As double-stack rail transport imposes much stricter clearance requirements, this is often not a problem.
However, in areas with tighter loading gauges, this sort of transport may be restricted or perhaps impossible. However, as full trucks are loaded into rail trains for rolling highway transit, the height clearance standards are typically a little lower. For the crane to be able to move the trailers, which is the fastest and most economical way to load and unload them onto the train, the trailers themselves must also meet certain minimal specifications.

NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH
Atherna launched new developed TOFO, of Trailer Train F89F flatcar has long been a pillar of modern railroading. Over the years, these adaptable cars have been modified for a variety of services and loadings, including trailer-on-flatcar, autoracks, and structural steel loading. While the majority were built for Trailer Train, numerous other railways also had autorack service created for them.
Later on, many were “de-racked,” reallocated, and outfitted for different services including TOFC, vehicle loading, pipe service, etc. A high level of detail guarantees the prototype’s authenticity. In order to appeal to modellers of many eras, this Athearn N-scale model was created from the ground up to integrate as many prototype details and variations as possible, based on field measurements and construction instructions.
Due to its sturdy die-cast frame for accurate tracking and our N-scale 70-ton ASF Ride-Control trucks, you can be guaranteed of its squeaky-clean performance.
