INTRODUCTION
A system and procedure for UAV refueling system. The system can be used to connect an umbilical from a second unmanned aerial vehicle to a first unmanned aerial vehicle while it is in flight. It also features a configuration for flying the first and second unmanned aerial vehicles close together within a predefined range.
A targeting system for electromagnetically detecting a fueling outlet on the first vehicle is part of the connecting arrangement in the illustrative embodiment.
The targeting system has a first coil positioned around the first vehicle’s fueling port. On the second vehicle, a seeker is situated at the first end of the umbilical. Three detector coils in the seeker are configured to pick up a magnetic signal from the first.

The UAV refueling system, which evolved from the earlier Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS) program, produced the aerial refueling drone known as the Boeing MQ-25 Stingray.
