    GLOBAL WIRELESS BRIDGE MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

Wireless technology is rapidly replacing the regular wired connections today especially in local home networks.  People mostly prefer their devices to be wireless for mobility and to avoid using unsightly cables.

To make this possible, one needs devices such as wireless routers, access points, network adapters and wireless bridges that allow wireless connectivity.  Routers and access points mainly serve as the source of one wireless connection while the network adapters and wireless bridges act as receivers.

A wireless bridge is constructed by connecting two access points together in its most basic form. The roles of the two access points are switched such that one plays the part of a “access point” and the other “client” or “station.”

Similar to how a client device, like an iPad or laptop, would connect to a typical everyday access point, the client access point connects to the other access point. A point-to-point wireless bridge is different in that the connection is solely between the two devices.

Wireless bridges are very directed, which is another significant distinction. The RF energy is often transmitted in a 360-degree coverage pattern by access points. A wireless bridge typically consists of a Layer 2 connection between two wired ports. If a link is Layer 2, it signifies that switching is used to deliver packets to their destination, as opposed to switching and routing together.

The same Subnet will house both ends of the link. The majority of wireless bridges should be handled just like a long ethernet connection. Actually, it doesn’t matter what IP addresses one gives the radio units at either end of the link; the link will still function. However, unless they are addressed correctly, one might not be able to log into them to administer the link.

    NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

Linksys created wireless bridges to meet the growing demand for wireless connectivity, enabling any wired device to join your wireless network.  Dual-Band N Entertainment Bridges from Linksys, such the WES610N and WET610N, let consumers connect Ethernet-capable devices to a wireless network, like gaming consoles or DVRs.

These are perfect for wirelessly streaming or sharing music, images, movies, and other things across the house because they are geared for streaming video. It’s possible to wirelessly link a switch to the house router using the Linksys wireless bridge.

It gives you more Ethernet connections so you can add more wirelessly connected devices to your network, allowing you to expand your current network.  While WET610N only has one Ethernet port, WES610N has four .
