A writable matte product with a substrate coated in a water-absorbing coating. The crosslinked, water-absorbing polymer particle, water-insoluble binder polymer with high adherence to the film, and optionally inert organic or inorganic particles that give the coating a matte finish make up the distinctive composition of the water-absorbing layer.
Advantageously, using the present invention, drying times for these inks are decreased from roughly 10 minutes to 10 seconds. Films made of polyester and polyolefin are preferred.
