    Kenya exports avocados to India

India and Kenya are maritime neighbours. The contemporary ties between India and Kenya have now evolved into a robust and multi-faceted partnership, marked by regular high-level visits, increasing trade and investment as well as extensive people to people contacts.

Kenya exports a significant percentage of the production of avocados to countries like the Netherlands, the US, China, Spain, the UK, the UAE, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, among others.

India has recently granted market access for Kenyan avocados, a strategic move communicated to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the first shipment arrived in Sep 2023.

This move is driven by the growing demand for avocados in India, coupled with Kenya’s reputation as a major producer of high-quality avocados. The export initiative is expected to not only bolster Kenya’s economy but also enhance bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Kenya has gained international recognition for its avocado production, particularly the popular Hass variety. The decision to export to India reflects Kenya’s strategic efforts to diversify its export destinations and tap into emerging markets with a burgeoning middle-class population. Avocados are valued for their nutritional benefits, and their popularity has surged globally, making them a lucrative commodity in international trade.
