Absolute encoders are feedback devices that output a digital word or bit in relation to motion to provide speed and position information. Absolute encoders, in contrast to incremental encoders, which produce a continuous stream of ubiquitous pulses, produce distinct words or bits for each position.
The sensing technology of absolute encodersâoptical or magneticâor their output over multiple turns of the motor shaftâsingle-turn or multi-turnâcan be used to classify them.A code disc with markings and an LED that shines light through the code disc are used in optical absolute encoders.
Position shifts can be detected as the disc rotates with the motor shaft. The LED is substituted for a magnetic sensing array and the optical markers for magnetic absolute encoders are replaced by magnetic poles.
Although all absolute rotary encoders provide feedback based on the shaft's rotation (the encoder's position within full rotation degrees or a single turn), different applications need to know how many times the encoder has turned, either completely or multiple times. For each additional turn, absolute encoders with multiple turns provide additional feedback.
The Global absolute Industrial encoders market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
