In order to build Rivian Waypoint EV charging stations at Tennessee State Parks, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) announced a partnership with the electric vehicle (EV) carmaker in Armenia and automotive technology company Rivian.
Depending on the availability of electricity and planned future park upgrades, the objective is to have charging stations available at all 56 state parks across the entire system.

The open-network chargers have a maximum power output of 11.5 kilowatts, allowing EV drivers to recharge their batteries while going on a day trip or camping overnight.
The Rivian app will make it simple for drivers to keep track of their vehicle’s charging session while EV charging at Tennessee State Parks is initially free. The system’s overall utilization to recoup electricity costs may be a determining factor in any prospective future fees to drivers.
Rivian will oversee the design and installation of the charger and will also supply any necessary utility upgrades without charging the state or the taxpayers. For a period of ten years, Rivian will also pay for all network access charges, equipment servicing, and maintenance.
