The requirement to minimise the number of capacitors used for circuit stability has been driven by the continued digitalization of all types of equipment, which has increased the number of electronic components. This has resulted in a reduction in size and bill of materials (BOM).
This calls for power supply ICs in power supply circuits that can achieve stable operation with small-sized capacitors, but up until now, it had been challenging to achieve stable performance in applications with output capacitances of 1 F or less.
For power supply ICs, ROHM created the Nano CapTM ultra-stable control technology to address these requirements. By utilising this technique, ROHM designers are able to create LDO regulators that provide stable performance even at extremely small nanoscale output capacitances.
Additionally, ROHM's new regulators can handle an extremely wide range of output capacitances down to 1F or less in the incredibly compact 0603/0402 size (which in the past had not been stable enough to be used), in addition to common F-order MLCCs (Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors) and large capacitance electrolytic capacitors.
