Global Automotive SoC Market 2024-2030

Last Updated:  Apr 25, 2025 | Study Period: 2024-2030

AUTOMOTIVE SOC MARKET

INTRODUCTION

SOC, or the Security Operations Centre for Connected Cars In order to power connected cars and autonomous driving systems, it is designing and fabricating a single integrated circuit with a variety of specialized processing units. A battery's state of charge (SOC), which is stated as a percentage, is a measurement of the energy it has available at any given time.

To satisfy stringent requirements like feature set, performance per Watt, safety, and security all combined on a single chip instead of a PCB, a high-performance, purpose-built SoC or system-in-package (SiP) is required. The auto industry has come to the realization that OEMs and suppliers must take a more active part in the definition of the SoC architecture in order to enable highly automated driving.

AUTOMOTIVE SOC MARKET NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

Launch of the first automotive SoC from TI with an AI Accelerator For the first time, TI has incorporated a specialized AI accelerator into one of its SoCs for the automotive market, a development that exemplifies the expanding use of deep learning in ADAS systems for cars.

The brand-new deep learning building block is built using TI's C7x DSP IP and a matrix multiplication accelerator that was created internally. The TDA4VM, one of the two initial SoCs introduced as a part of the Jacinto 7 series, integrates sensor pre-processing and data analytics designed to handle inputs from 8-megapixel front-mounted camera systems.

The TDA4VM, on the other hand, could manage four to six 3-megapixel cameras working simultaneously in addition to inputs from radar, lidar, and ultrasonic sensors. ADAS, such as automated parking, are made possible by these cameras and sensors. In order to enable techniques like object detection, deep learning can be used to combine data from many sensors.in Germany, at a TI press conference. This is the first SoC with the C7x [DSP] integrated into it.

They added instructions for vectors, which are for computer vision, but they also realized that a lot of the history of DSP usage revolves around things like communication infrastructure, [where the problem is] how they feed a huge amount of data into a SoC or into a math's engine, how they crunch it, and how they get it out. It's quite challenging. The brand-new C7x DSP is an expert at handling massive volumes of data and carrying out challenging real-time math's operations. To enhance deep learning applications, a matrix multiplication accelerator was integrated with the data streaming capacity of the DSP.

They have TIDAL [Texas Instruments Deep Learning], a top layer that abstracts the complexity of the MMA, and they can program me it through that. There are several circumstances in which they may use it with their libraries. But its interaction with the C7x, which enables faster data ingestion and output, is what makes it so beautiful. The TDA4VM is for ADAS systems ranging in power from 5 to 20W. Front camera systems normally have a power budget of less than 7W, according to Wasson, but the same SoC is also suitable for more complex systems like automatic valet parking, which might have a power budget closer to 20W.

The use of a high-tech SoC like this one can actually lower system cost for applications like front camera systems, according to TI's marketing strategy. They might not need dual cameras if they have the appropriate deep learning; they could accomplish the same task using a less expensive, lower-quality lens. Therefore, the cost is substantially lower for an OEM or Tier 1, but they still have the engine, which [essentially] makes up for it by improving their performance.

The TDA4VM's deep learning engine can do up to 8 TOPS. Future devices will range both above and below it; as the initial component of the Jacinto 7 series, it is designed to be a mid-range component in terms of computational power. Future parts with, say, 2 TOPS could be beneficial for less computationally intensive functions like driver monitoring or occupancy detection.

One of the wonderful things about the automotive market is that all of these use-cases coexist. Even when an OEM releases a completely new, updated platform, there are many car lines on the same platform, and they all coexist. The largest problem then arises from how to achieve software compatibility if they build the most scalable platform and scale the SoC with various use cases.

Now that they have provided a blank canvas for them to work with, they must figure out how to make it such that it is compatible with existing software. A deep learning accelerator for ADAS features built into the TDA4VM uses data from cameras, radar, lidar, and ultrasound to analyze the environment. Compared to a phone manufacturer, who produces a few models and ships tens of millions of units, they must amortize that development expense over a very limited number of cars. There are already development kits and prototype devices for the TDA4VM available.

AUTOMOTIVE SOC MARKETMARGIN COMPARISON

Margin Comparison (Highest to lowest) Region Remarks
Europe The supply chain demands and the purchasing power in the region enable suppliers to extradite a larger margin from this region than other regions. This is for both locally manufactured as well as imported goods and services in the region.
North America Due to the high spending power in this region, the margins are higher compared to the rest of the world, but they are lower than Europe as there is higher competition in this region. All the suppliers of goods and services target USA as a main market thereby decreasing their margins compared to Europe
Asia Lower purchasing power, coupled with higher accessibility of services in this regions doesn’t enable suppliers to charge a high margin making it lower than Europe and North America. The quality of goods and services are also affected due to this aspect in the region
Africa and ROW The margins are the lowest in this region, except for Australia and New Zealand as the countries in this region don’t have much spending power and a large portion of the products and services from this area is exported to other parts of the world
