    The ENGEL organomelt process develops and functionalizes thermoplastic fibre composite preforms, such as thermoplastic sheet and UD-tapes, in a single integrated phase.

     

    For instance, following thermoforming with a thermoplastic from the same matrix material group as the thermoplastic sheet, reinforcing ribs or assembly components are immediately formed in the same mould. This promotes the circular economy while also enabling a highly effective and fully automated production process. 

     

    The constant thermoplastic mono-material design makes it easier to recycle the parts later. ENGEL is showcasing the enormous potential of organomelt lightweight technology at its booth in Paris with a working machine installation.

     

    Automation is being used to create inspection flaps for the fuselage of passenger aircraft using an ENGEL victory 660/160 injection moulding machine and an ENGEL easix articulated robot. The production cell also houses an IR oven, which was created and produced internally by ENGEL. 

     

    Two different material systems are being processed alternatively over the course of the fair’s three days in order to demonstrate the broad variety of applications in both the aerospace and automotive industries.

     

    On one hand, thermoplastic sheets with a PEEK matrix are overmolded with PEEK, while on the other, thermoplastic sheets with a PPA basis are treated in conjunction with PPA.

     

    The thermoplastic sheets are heated in the IR oven before being heated in the mould, produced there, and then instantly overmolded by the robot. A mounting clip is created, as well as the reinforcement ribs.
