INTRODUCTION
Tonneau covers can be defined as a cover (as of fabric) that protects the unoccupied rear seating compartment of a convertible or roadster or even a lid (as of fabric or aluminum) that covers the bed of a pickup truck.
The tonneau covers adhesives are produced from Telene outers that the company reaction injection molds and honeycomb-like inners that are vacuum formed. For assembly, the Telene thermoplastic outer skin is placed in a bonding nest.
The inner is installed on a movable cart, and both are pre-wiped with solvent. After the solvent flashes off the inner, the polyurethane is meter-mixed in a 1-to-1 resin-to-hardener ratio.
The blended adhesive is then applied around the panel perimeter and the part's center. Metal reinforcing plates are also mounted on the corners of the panel using the polyurethane.
The part is then in-verted and positioned onto the outer skin. The inner is centered so the flanges are fully aligned. To complete assembly, cover components are clamped in place until they are cured enough to be moved to the paint area.
GLOBAL AUTOMOTIVE TONNEAU COVER ADHESIVES MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST
The Global automotive tonneau cover adhesives market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH
Truck Tonneau Covers Bonded With Polyurethane - The Arathane AW 8680/HW 8685 polyurethane that was ultimately selected for the application exhibits a 10-minute gel time that is sufficient for part assembly and a fast room-temperature cure that supports increased productivity.
The adhesive is also formulated specifically for bonding thermoplastics and, once cured, exhibits an elongation of 250% to produce bond lines that will retain their strength as the tonneau cover flexes during use.
Comold a previously thermoformed high-gloss, five-layer, color-matched thermoplastic capstock â which eliminates the need for painting by in-corporating multiple color layers and a protective clear, high-gloss surface layer â and a wet-laid, lightweight, low-profile, honeycomb-cored thermoset sandwich understructure that requires no secondary bonding.
