Due to its better qualities and environmental friendliness, a zinc oxide (ZnO) blended natural fibre-reinforced biocomposite (NFRBC) was created and assessed to replace the commercial automobile GF-SMC (Meridian's SLI 323IF).
The NFRBC is made of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) fibres mixed with ZnO nanoparticles to create a fibre-mat preform utilised in the vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding process to create the final NFRBC.
Flexural strength (121%), tensile strength (38%), and water resistance (76%) were all boosted by 12.4% ZnO nanoparticles. When compared to GF-SMC, the ZnO12.4%-NFRBC exhibited similar mechanical qualities, but it used 9% less energy to produce and had a 33% lower environmental impact according to life-cycle assessment (LCA).
ZnO12.4%-NFRBC's water resistance was much enhanced, however more alterations are required to completely fulfil the standards for GF-SMC replacement.
