Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a typical inorganic substance with a wide range of applications. It is soluble in dilute acids and bases but insoluble in water. It also decomposes at its extraordinarily high melting point. Wurtzite and zincblende are the two most prevalent crystalline forms of zinc oxide.
ZnO is a grown semiconductor material that is categorised as being negative (n-type). 2-4 group semiconductor materials include zinc oxide (ZnO). A band gap of 3.37 eV is present in ZnO. High binding energy is another property of ZnO.
Zinc oxide is a white, relatively inert chemical that is commonly used as a filler, bulking agent, and as a white pigment. It serves as a catalyst in the chemical industry and may be found in some rubber, glass, and ceramic goods. Additionally, it serves as a corrosion inhibitor and a mildew inhibitor in paints.
The Global automotive zinc oxide market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Development and evaluation of zinc oxide-blended kenaf fibre biocomposite for automotive applications. The use of glass-fibre sheet moulding compound (GF-SMC) in autos is raising environmental concerns.
Due to its better qualities and environmental friendliness, a zinc oxide (ZnO) blended natural fibre-reinforced biocomposite (NFRBC) was created and assessed to replace the commercial automobile GF-SMC (Meridian’s SLI 323IF).
The NFRBC is made of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) fibres mixed with ZnO nanoparticles to create a fibre-mat preform utilised in the vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding process to create the final NFRBC.
Flexural strength (121%), tensile strength (38%), and water resistance (76%) were all boosted by 12.4% ZnO nanoparticles. When compared to GF-SMC, the ZnO12.4%-NFRBC exhibited similar mechanical qualities, but it used 9% less energy to produce and had a 33% lower environmental impact according to life-cycle assessment (LCA).
ZnO12.4%-NFRBC’s water resistance was much enhanced, however more alterations are required to completely fulfil the standards for GF-SMC replacement.
