The goal of battery recycling is to lessen the quantity of batteries disposed away as municipal solid waste. Batteries contain several harmful compounds and heavy metals, thus disposing of them in the same manner as other home garbage has sparked worries about soil and water pollution.
Batteries may leak these chemicals into the earth as they start to decay away in landfills, which can contaminate the soil and water. Humans and the environment may be affected when pollutants pollute water and soil-dwelling creatures. Recycling is a fantastic method to contribute to environmental protection.
The Brazil EV Battery Recycling Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2026, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2027.
Tupy, BMW Group Brasil, and Senai Paraná have formed an unparalleled alliance to create a more sustainable method that ensures the recovery of chemical components from EV batteries towards the end of their useful lives.
Each partner will offer unique expertise to studies according to their field of expertise. Tupy has used its understanding of materials and metallurgy to develop solutions within the Tupy Tech front that aid clients in their journey toward decarbonization.
This project attempts to improve battery recycling by hydrometallurgy, a method that is more environmentally friendly than the present most used pyrometallurgy. The technique reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reduces the need for conventional mining to obtain minerals.
The project will be managed by Senai Paraná, who will also be in charge of the study's operations and delivery of its findings. The research will take place at the Senai Institute of Innovation in Electrochemistry (ISI-EQ), in the city of Curitiba (PR).
The development of the hydrometallurgy recycling process will be aided by the technological know-how of BMW Group Brazil, a global leader in electromobility, and the batteries from the BMW i3 electric vehicle.
Resynthesis of recycled materials to create new battery cells from recycled material is one of the deliverables outlined with ISI-EQ in accordance with its worldwide sustainability and circular economy strategy.
