Butachlor is a kind of aromatic amide that is 2-chloro-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl) acetamide with a butoxymethyl group in lieu of the amide nitrogen. It functions as a xenobiotic, an environmental pollutant, and a herbicide. It is an organochlorine substance, an aromatic amide, and a tertiary carboxamide.
Functionally, it is connected to an N-phenylacetamide. A selective herbicide called butachlor is applied to corn, soybean, and other crop cultures all over the world. In surface and groundwater, these herbicides and the byproducts of their breakdown have been found at high amounts.
The acetanilide class of herbicides includes butachlor. As a selective pre-emergent herbicide, it is employed. As a post-emergence herbicide, it is widely used in rice in India in the form of granules.
Selective systemic herbicide Hockley Butachlor is effective against a variety of annual grass weeds as well as some broadleaf weeds. It is sprayed to crops either just before weed emergence or very early on after weed emergence.
The majority of the time, poisonings from acute exposure to single, high doses of pesticides are characterised by neurotoxic consequences; nevertheless, there are a few case reports in the clinical literature that mention liver damage.
One instance is a newly published case of liver damage brought on by the chloroacetanilide herbicide butachlor, which poisoned an Iranian rice farmer and was shown by clinical and histological evidence. During subchronic or chronic exposures necessary for pesticide registration, noncarcinogenic hepatotoxicity is more frequently found during histological examination.
The Global Butachlor market accountedfor $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Herbicides of the acetanilide family include butachlor. For the control of annual grasses and certain large-leaved weeds in rice, both seeded and transplanted, it is used as a selective pre-emergent herbicide. Barley, cotton, peanuts, sugar beet, wheat, and numerous brassica crops exhibit selectivity.
Two new, highly effective herbicides, butachlor and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, have been heavily utilised to control a wide range of weeds in a variety of crops. Due to the use of this herbicide's high level of water toxicity, the market has recently experienced minimal expansion.
The market for butachlor herbicide is expanding as a result of the rising demand for cereals from a growing world population and shrinking arable land. However increasing awareness of the harmful effects of herbicides and other toxic agrochemicals, together with strict environmental regulations,
For the preemergent control of grass and broadleaf weeds in rice and barley, butachlor was created. Under the brand name Machete, butachlor is offered as an emulsifiable concentrate and granular form.
The main factor that will likely increase demand for butachlor in the next few years is the loss of arable lands. However, the growing demand for organic farming may prove to be a threat to the expansion of the worldwide butachlor market in the years to come.
Due to its advantages in terms of its influence on the environment, organic agriculture is becoming more and more popular among farmers worldwide.
