A type of plastic made from cotton linters or wood pulp is known as cellulose-based plastic, sometimes known as cellulose acetate. This plastic is safe for the environment and can be recycled, reused, and replenished because it is produced from biodegradable basic materials.
The leftover barks of the trees can be separated even during the creation of bioplastics and used to provide energy for other purposes.
The Global Cellulose-based packaging market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
Designing novel single-use plastic substitutes while accelerating the development of biodegradable, sustainable, high performance cellulose-based materials for the packaging sector.
Since last year, and especially since the introduction of the AGEC law intended to reduce plastic usage, a new trend has emerged, and this is where Cellulose Valley (the name is a nod to the historic ecosystem of the Isère city linked to cellulose and paper) intends to focus its efforts â replacing plastic with paper cardboard.
The goal is to create innovative packaging from cellulose, some of which might serve as plastic substitutes. Plans have already been made to fund two theses, a postdoctoral fellowship, and roughly twenty Masters internships. In terms of the research component, the chair will concentrate on locating fresh materials made from cellulose that are biodegradable. Being both recyclable and degradable is the goal.
The mechanical characteristics and barriers required in the packaging industry will be provided by these novel materials. By offering a service to businesses searching for more eco-friendly packaging options, Cellulose Valley will assist in the environmental transformation.
The chair aids in the environmental transformation of packaging. By planning a structured activity of thought and research with an international character around this subject, it will also be feasible to raise and strengthen the level of excellence among partner firms and Grenoble INP-UGA.
