A flatcar is a type of rolling stock that has an open, flat deck mounted on two trucks or bogies, one with four or six wheels at each end. In some cases, flat cars with unusually large or heavy loads are mounted on a pair of bogies beneath each end.
The car's deck may be made of steel or wood, and it may have pockets on the sides for pegs or tie-down points for securing goods. Sliding chain assemblies are recessed into the deck of flatcars made specifically to transport machinery. For cargo that are too big or heavy to load into enclosed cars like boxcars, flatcars are employed. As part of intermodal freight transport transportation, they are frequently utilised to convey intermodal containers or trailers.
Specialty cars called centerbeam flatcars, centerbeams, centre partition railcars, or "lumber racks" are made for transporting bundled building materials such dimensional lumber, wallboard, and fence posts. In essence, they are bulkhead flatcars that have been reinforced with longitudinal I-beams, frequently in the form of Vierendeel trusses, occasionally reinforced by diagonal members, but originally in the form of stressed panels perforated by panel-lightening "opera windows," either oval- or egg-shaped.
To prevent tipping, these flatcars must be loaded symmetrically, with half the payload on one side of the centerbeam and the other.
The Global Centerbeam flatcar market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
A New Run of 72-foot Centerbeam Flatcars and Individual Load Kits is launched by Walthers centerbeam flatcar. Use these brand-new 72' Center Beam Flat Cars to transport finished timber across your property.
These cars are ideal for transporting cargo from sawmills to small town lumber yards like Walton & Sons because they have either the common centre beam or the unusual opera window centre beam with oval cutouts. With the proper centre beam for each roadname, these special autos are delivered to you ready to drive. Free rolling trucks and functional knuckle couplers are further characteristics. These cars can also carry decorated loads.
