A flatcar is a type of rolling stock that has an open, flat deck mounted on two trucks or bogies, one with four or six wheels at each end. In some cases, flat cars with unusually large or heavy loads are mounted on a pair of bogies beneath each end.
The car’s deck may be made of steel or wood, and it may have pockets on the sides for pegs or tie-down points for securing goods.
