The new iMScope QT imaging mass microscope from Shimadzu has been released. It has increased analytical speed and imaging capabilities and combines a mass spectrometer with an optical microscope that is already built into the device.

 

Its creators contend that it is the only instrument capable of obtaining mass spectral data coupled with morphological data and claim that it is the best tool for cutting-edge R&D problems.The entire workflow, from sample preparation to simple sample analysis and data analysis, may be handled by the iMScope QT.

 

Using both microscope images and data on compound distribution from the MS, it visualises target compound distributions in microscopic locations. It can be used effectively in agricultural and food science, as well as in medical and pharmaceutical applications.

 

The iMScope QT, for instance, enables one to determine whether a medicine has been administered properly when treating cancer.

 

The iMLayer Aero sprayer for MALDI imaging is also being launched along with the iMScope QT product. The new apparatus uniformly and reliably sprays the sample, producing findings that are highly reproducible.

 

Additionally automating the matrix spraying pretreatment procedure, it completes Shimadzu's existing iMLayer for matrix sublimation and offers more versatility in MS imaging, including analyte derivatization and enzyme digestion.

 

The iMScope QT combines a quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) mass spectrometer with a high-precision stage and an exceptionally stable UV laser. They accomplish a leading spatial resolution of 5 m while working together. In comparison to the previous model, the iMScope QT also claims three times the mass resolution and five times the image capture speed.
