In tsl K’é, the NWT Power Corporation is opening a new diesel plant. The new diesel plant will cost close to $15 million and use somewhat less energy than the old one.
Even though the plant still burns diesel, Power Corporation Minister Diane Archie said that the new facility will “guarantee that the amount of generation-related power outages is decreased.” A news release also highlighted the emissions advantages of the facility.
The NWT government reported that the new power plant will enable the addition of more renewable energy to the local grid in the future and will lower greenhouse gas emissions related to tsl K’é’s electricity generation by 100 tonnes yearly compared to the old one.
The NWT Power Corporation is establishing a new diesel plant at tsl K’é. With a price tag of around $15 million, the new diesel plant will be somewhat more energy-efficient than the old one.
Power Corporation Minister stated that the new facility will “ensure that the amount of generation-related power outages is lowered,” despite the fact that the plant continues to burn diesel.
The facility’s benefits with regard to emissions were also noted in a news release. According to the NWT government, the new power plant will make it possible to eventually add more renewable energy to the local grid and will result in a 100-ton annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated to tsl K’é’s electricity production.
