GLOBAL EMERGENCY LOGISTICS MARKET

INTRODUCTION

Emergency logistics refers to the logistics activities caused by emergencies, including emergency logistics demand and supply activities to meet these logistics needs, with the goal of maximising time efficiency and minimising disaster losses.

Operations for responding to disasters and carrying out humanitarian relief missions depend on logistics. The level of excellence in logistics operations has a substantial impact on the duration and standard of care, which are important elements for minimising the detrimental social and economic effects on humanitarian operations in an emergency.

Materials management, inventory control, staffing, financial planning, communications, transportation, and supply management are all included in logistics management.

One of the key concerns in dealing with and sustaining catastrophe operations through an efficient flow of necessary resources is logistics management.

NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

WFP and WHO launch an innovative project on Emergency Health Facilities. The World Health Organization (WHO), the Italian government, and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) are launching INITIATE, a joint project to bring together emergency actors, research and academic institutions, and international and national partners to promote knowledge sharing and skills transfer for improved emergency response to health crises.

The project is focused on the role of logistics in current and future health emergencies.INITIATE will provide standardised, creative solutions, including disease-specific field setups and tools, and test these solutions in actual use cases.

In order to increase their ability to respond to health crises, the agencies will also train logistical and health responders on how to install and use them. Building on prior emergency response experiences, the initiative will be developed and duplicated across nations for necessary individuals.

The project will combine the technological know-how of WFP and WHO and make use of the already-existing resources of the UN Humanitarian Response Depot in Brindisi, the first of a network of six carefully chosen hubs that stores and distributes aid on behalf of the humanitarian community.

INITIATE will take advantage of these resources and expertise: the Brindisi hub frequently holds sizable emergency simulations and is linked to the UNHRD Lab, where cutting-edge emergency response technologies are produced and put to the test.
