Huntsman introduced bio-based polyurethane foam for use in car soundproofing. ACOUSTIFLEX VEF BIO system, a revolutionary bio-based viscoelastic polyurethane foam technology for moulded acoustic applications in the automotive sector, was introduced by Huntsman.

 

This foam contains up to 20% bio-based materials obtained from vegetable oil. The carbon footprint of automobile carpet foam can be cut by up to 25% using this invention in comparison to the Huntsman approach currently in use for this application.

 

The method can also be applied to soundproof wheel arches and instrument panels. Adding bio-based additives to polyurethane foam systems in the past would negatively affect performance, specifically the emission and odour level, which is annoying.

 

This is untrue, as evidenced by the advancement of their ACOUSTIFLEX VEF BIO system. Analysis and trials reveal that Huntsman's traditional VEF system can perform better acoustically than high resilience (HR) foam at a lower frequency (500Hz).

 

The ACOUSTIFLEX VEF BIO system achieves the same level of noise reduction capability. Huntsman kept working to create polyurethane foam with zero anime, zero plasticizer, and exceptionally low formaldehyde emissions when it created the ACOUSTIFLEX VEF BIO system. As a result, the system produces few emissions and little smell.
