The development of a new Electric Power Steering Motor Control Unit (EPS-MCU), which will improve vehicle handling and safety, was announced by DENSO Corporation today. It is present in the TOYOTA NEW HARRIER and will be found in vehicles made by a number of different automakers.

 

The DDA1 (DENSO Dual Assist 1st Generation) is the first EPS-MCU in the world with two drive circuits and motor windings. Through this device, DENSO hopes to advance the automated driving age while also building a safe and secure society for the automobile.

 

The power steering unit is supported by two systems, one of which serves as a backup in case a fault arises, increasing reliability and safety and ensuring constant and fluid steering operations.

 

The recently created EPS-MUC, known as "DDA2 (DENSO Dual Assist 2nd Generation)," preserves two drive circuits and motor windings while unifying various components and streamlining the structure, resulting in a 10% size reduction as well as cost savings compared to DDA1.

 

In order to ensure that the control programme is tailored to meet the needs of diverse vehicles, DENSO has also reviewed and revised this process to shorten the development lead time.

 

In particular, after the component is installed at the vehicle manufacturer, the company creates the software so that it seamlessly integrates with the vehicle. DENSO is still working to create a secure and safe automotive society for everyone on the planet.
