Renesas Introduces New Gate Driver IC for IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs Driving EV Inverters.The IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs that supply power to the inverter are interfaced with the inverter control MCU by gate driver ICs, which are crucial parts of EV inverters.

 

They transfer the control signals they get from the MCU in the low-voltage domain to quickly switch on and off power devices in the high-voltage domain. The RAJ2930004AGM includes a built-in 3.75kVrms (kV root mean square) isolator.

 

which is higher than the 2.5kVrms isolator in the previous generation product and can support power devices with a withstand voltage of up to 1200V, to accommodate the higher voltages of EV batteries. 

 

The new driver IC also offers outstanding CMTI (Common Mode Transient Immunity) performance at 150 V/ns (nanosecond) or higher, ensuring dependable communication and better noise immunity while handling the high voltages and quick switching rates required in inverter systems.

 

The new device is perfect for low-cost inverter systems since it provides the fundamental functionalities of a gate driver in a compact SOIC16 package.

 

The RAJ2930004AGM can be utilised with SiC MOSFETs and IGBTs from other manufacturers in addition to Renesas' IGBTs. The gate driver IC is perfect for a variety of power semiconductor applications, including on-board chargers and DC/DC converters, in addition to traction inverters.

 

Renesas provides the xEV Inverter Kit solution, which combines gate driver ICs with MCUs, IGBTs, and power management ICs, to assist developers in getting their products to market rapidly. A new version will be released that includes the new gate driver IC.
