The NTE74180 is a universal, monolithic, 9-bit (8 data bits plus 1 parity bit) parity generator/checker that uses the well-known Series 74 TTL circuitry and has odd/even outputs and control inputs to make it easier to operate in either even or odd parity applications.
It is housed in a 14-lead plastic DIP type package. The even or odd inputs can be used as the parity or 9th-bit input depending on whether even or odd parity is being generated or checked.
Cascading makes it simple to increase the word length capacity. Other TTL or DTL circuits can be used with the NTE74180 without any issues. Each data input only reflects one normalised Series 74 load thanks to input buffers.
Each of the outputs is capable of a full fan-out to 10 normalised Series 74 loads at a low logic level.
To make it easier to link unused inputs to used inputs, a fan-out to 20 normalised loads is offered at a high logic level. 170mW of power is typically dissipated.
