A fast attack craft (FAC) is a compact, swift, nimble, offensive, frequently affordable warship outfitted with torpedoes, a cannon, and anti-ship missiles.
As they lack the seakeeping and all-around defensive skills to survive in blue water, FACs are often operated close to land.
The key benefit of a rapid assault vessel over other warship types is its low cost. A navy that is at a disadvantage can effectively defend itself against a stronger foe by deploying numerous FACs at a reasonable cost.
The Global Fast attack Interdiction Craft missile market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
Israeli-made Fast-attack Interdiction Craft-missiles to Help Defend Philippine Littoral Zones. The Philippine Navy's (PN) capacity to defend the nation's coastal zones would increase as a result of the recent acquisition of fast-attack interdiction craft-missiles (FAIC-Ms).
The area of a sea, lake, or river that is close to the shore is known as the littoral or nearshore. The first two of the nine FAICS-Ms that the Philippines purchased from Israel Shipyards Ltd are the BRP Nestor Acero (PG-901) and BRP Lolinato To-Ong (PG-902), according to the state-run Philippine News Agency.
These 32-metre, high-speed warships are outfitted with short-range missiles and remote-stabilised weaponry that can execute precise strikes against larger enemies and highly valuable objectives on land and at sea.
While the other four FAIC-Ms will be armed with machine guns and light automatic cannons, four of the FAIC-Ms will be equipped with non-line-of-sight (NLOS) missiles with pinpoint accuracy and a range of 25 kilometres.
They are anticipated to take the position of the medium-sized patrol craft or patrol killer medium (PKM) force. These ships can use the nearby littoral areas as manoeuvre space and cover to stop surface threats and safely launch non-line-of-sight missiles.
