INTRODUCTION
A type of adhesive known as flexible packaging adhesive is used to affix and seal flexible packaging components such as films, foils, and laminates. These adhesives are employed in the manufacture of a variety of goods, such as consumer packaging, medical packaging, and food packaging. There are various types of flexible packaging adhesives, including:
Adhesives with solvents in them: These adhesives have solvents in them that evaporate during curing, leaving a solid bond between the substrate and the adhesive.
Water-based adhesives: These adhesives are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and have a wide range of applications.Hot melt adhesives: These adhesives are applied while still liquid and cool to a solid state, forming a solid bond.
Pressure-sensitive adhesives: These adhesives, which are frequently used in products like labels and tapes, instantly link together when pressure is applied.
Flexible packaging adhesives need to offer dependable bonding that can resist the strains of handling, storage, and transportation. Additionally, they need to abide by laws governing food safety and environmental effect.
Since they must withstand moisture, temperature changes, and other environmental conditions, they are designed with certain features including great strength, excellent adhesion, and resistance to those things.
FLEXIBLE PACKAGING ADHESIVES MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST
The Global Flexible Packaging Adhesives Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
FLEXIBLE PACKAGING ADHESIVES MARKET NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH
Henkel introduces two solvent-free, two-component polyurethane systems for flexible packaging, Loctite Liofol LA 7818 RE / 6231 RE and Loctite Liofol LA 7102 RE / 6902 RE, in its RE Range.
RecyClass, a comprehensive cross-industry program that advances the recycling of plastic packaging and ensures the traceability and transparency of recovered plastic material in Europe, has recognized the two new adhesives for their recyclability.
Through initiatives like stringent scientific testing and certification of novel materials, the organization seeks to establish a standardized approach towards recycled content calculation.
Due to their outstanding adhesion to metalized surfaces, the most recent additions to the RE line guarantee better packing integrity. Furthermore, both adhesive solutions operate admirably even at the highest machine speeds. There are fewer production outages as a result of their simple handling and ideal cleaning capabilities.
Comparing conventional adhesives in this market to PAA, which degrades more quickly, results in shorter storage times and a lower chance of complaints. All applications have undergone sustainability testing through external testing methodologies in addition to Henkel’s own internal testing and certification processes.
Two compostable flexible packaging adhesives were launched by HB Fuller. When someone asks for a compostable glue, what they really mean is that they want a package that contains components that can be composted. Thanks to the use of these compostable adhesives across the supply chain, this is now a reality.
These two new adhesives from our Flextra Evolution product line are known as Flextra Evolution SF1000CP/XR2000CP and Flextra Evolution WB1200CP/XR2200CP.
These new solutions from our Flextra Evolution product line have similar performance to conventional multi-layer packaging adhesives, show great printability and appearance, and work seamlessly with standard equipment. Most significantly, the adhesives degrade in commercial composting facilities without leaving behind any harmful contaminants like microplastics or toxic residue.
Flextra Evolution SF1000CP/XR2000CP is a 2K solventless adhesive that provides exceptional design benefits, such as outstanding sound dampening and excellent adherence, to a number of biodegradable film substrates, including bar wrap, snack packaging and much more. For paper-to-film laminations, a water-based two-part method called Flextra Evolution WB1200CP/XR2200CP is ideal.
According to HB Fuller, this glue complies with EN 13432, ASTM D6400, and is recognised by the Biodegradable Products Institute, North America’s foremost accreditor of compostable goods and packaging, as being entirely compostable.
Epoxy Silane-free Laminating Adhesives for Flexible Packaging are offered from Toyo-Morton. Both the solvent-based TOMOFLEXTM and the solvent-free ECOAD family of laminating adhesives are part of the updated portfolio, and both are appropriate for a variety of applications for multilayer flexible packaging, including dry food, liquid pouches, and high-performance retorts. The entire product line complies with all applicable international food contact standards for adhesives.
In multilayer flexible packaging constructions, epoxy silane is frequently used as an adhesion promoter to strengthen the bond between layers and lengthen the shelf life of the packaged goods.
Due to concerns about the safety of human health, regulations governing food packaging have recently been stricter, especially in the EU. Global converters and food producers are now looking for safer substitutes for use in multilayered flexible packaging as a result of this trend.
Although there is no governmental oversight of epoxy silanes at the moment, the company is aggressively removing questionable ingredients from the products they sell. The new portfolio was developed to meet the escalating regulatory requirements for safe food packaging that converters and food manufacturers must now meet.
They were able to create laminating adhesive goods as a top manufacturer of adhesives that not only don’t contain organic tin compounds or epoxy silanes, but also have comparable physical characteristics and performance levels to standard products. Delivering adhesive products that help consumers meet the highest performance and food safety standards is still a top priority for Toyo-Morton.
