    In the US, Hyundai XCIENT launched Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks. In order to demonstrate its commercial viability, XCIENT Fuel Cell made its premiere in Switzerland and has already travelled more than one million kilometres.

     

    Hyundai Motor and its fleet partner intend to start using these vehicles for long-distance freight runs between southern California warehouses. Additionally, Hyundai will collaborate with First Element Fuel (FEF), the industry leader in hydrogen refuelling stations in California, to use three hydrogen refuelling stations in the area to refill the vehicles.

     

    The Class 8 XCIENT Fuel Cell vehicles, according to the manufacturer, will have a maximum driving range of 500 miles due to the hydrogen being stored on the truck in tanks with a 700 bar (about 10,000 psi) pressure rating. The Class 8 XCIENT Fuel Cell truck will have a maximum gross combined weight of more than 37 tons, or over 82,000 lbs.
