INTRODUCTION

Gas detection camera or Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) Cameras - OGI cameras utilize infrared sensors to detect and visualize methane, sulfur hexafluoride, and hundreds of other industrial gases, which appear as plumes of smoke in a thermal image or video. 

 

They are commonly used to detect toxic or explosive gasses and measure gas concentration. Gas sensors are employed in factories and manufacturing facilities to identify gas leaks, and to detect smoke and carbon monoxide in homes. Gas sensors vary widely in size (portable and fixed), range, and sensing ability.

 

In point IR detectors, the concentration of hydrocarbon gas is measured via the infrared absorption of an optical beam known as the active beam. A second optical beam, known as the reference, follows the same optical path as the active but contains radiation at a wavelength not absorbed by the gas.

FLIR GF77 Offers Lower Cost Gas Inspection Camera Option to Provide More Professionals Access to the Technology

 

The new FLIR GF77 Gas Find IR uncooled thermal camera is designed to detect methane. At roughly half the cost of cooled cameras, it provides more professionals in the oil and gas industry access to this technology. 

 

FLIR Systems announced the FLIR GF77 Gas Find IR, its first uncooled thermal camera designed for detecting methane.

 

This handheld camera offers inspection professionals the features they need to find potentially dangerous, invisible methane leaks at natural gas power plants, renewable energy production facilities, industrial plants, and other locations along a natural gas supply chain.

 

The GF77 provides methane gas detection capability at roughly half the price of cooled gas inspection thermal cameras, to empower the oil and gas industry to reduce emissions and ensure a safer work environment.

 

Based on the award-winning design of the FLIR T-Series camera platform, the lighter weight GF77 features an ergonomic design, a vibrant LCD touchscreen, and a viewfinder to make it easy to use in any lighting conditions.

 

The camera is engineered specifically to detect methane in order to improve gas inspections and reduce the chance of false readings. The GF77 also offers FLIR’s patented High Sensitivity Mode (HSM), which accentuates movement to make tiny gas plumes more visible to the user.
