A graft polymer is a segmented copolymer with a linear backbone of one polymer and randomly distributed branches of another polymer. The branches are covalently bonded to the backbone and have different structural features from the backbone. The branches may be homopolymers or copolymers of different monomers. Graft polymers are also known as graft copolymers.
Graft polymers are synthesized by various methods, such as:
Graft polymers have many applications in various fields, such as biomedical, textiles, automobiles, cable technology, separation and purification, electrolyte membranes, coatings, adhesives, laminates, commodity plastics, etc.
Graft polymers can impart a variety of functional groups and properties to a polymer, such as improved mechanical strength, thermal stability, chemical resistance, biocompatibility, conductivity, etc.
