    • Grafting to: This method involves reacting functionalized monomers with a preformed polymer backbone. The monomers may have reactive groups that can attach to the backbone or initiators that can start a polymerization from the backbone.
    • Grafting from: This method involves generating immobilized initiators on a substrate or a polymer backbone and then polymerizing monomers from the initiators. This method can achieve high grafting density and control over the branch length and composition.
    • Grafting through: This method involves copolymerizing monomers that have both reactive groups and initiators. The reactive groups can form the backbone while the initiators can start the branch polymerization.


    Graft polymers have many applications in various fields, such as biomedical, textiles, automobiles, cable technology, separation and purification, electrolyte membranes, coatings, adhesives, laminates, commodity plastics, etc.
