As the name implies, graphene sensors use graphene as the active sensing material or detecting surface. For a variety of reasons, graphene has become a highly effective sensing surface. Its sensing capabilities are currently being used for a variety of sensors, from strain gauges to biosensors, and they are now beginning to be made commercially.
Smaller and lighter sensors will be made possible by graphene, opening up countless design options. Additionally, they will be quicker to operate, more sensitive, and capable of detecting tiny changes in matter than current sensors. Eventually, they may even be less expensive.
One type of Field Effect Transistor (FET) used in some graphene-based sensor systems has a graphene channel. The current flowing through the transistor varies when the desired analyte binds, sending a signal that may be examined to ascertain several characteristics.
Additionally, graphene-based nanoelectronic devices have been investigated for application in PH sensors, environmental contamination sensors, strain and pressure sensors, DNA sensors (for detecting nucleobases and nucleotides), Gas sensors (for detecting various gases), and more.
TheGlobal graphene sensor marketaccounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
A new product from Graphenea has been made available with the goal of simplifying graphene sensing: The Cartridge S2X is a container that connects the electrical equipment needed for readout to the graphene microdevice.
The GFET die can be inserted into a small cleft in the cartridge that is located beneath the electronics module and has mild pogo connections to the graphene chip. The contacts are positioned to work seamlessly with Graphenea's S20, S21, S20P, and S21P graphene chips, which are created specifically for biosensing.
Eight connections to the device are used in the design, comprising six source electrodes, one drain, and one gate. To make it simple and reliable to connect to external measuring equipment, the pins are routed to a standard 8-pin BNC connector.
