Sending products as a Full Container Load or a Less-than Container Load is the norm for cargo transit. When you have an LCL shipment to deliver to a customer, you do not necessarily need to rent or hire a whole container to do it. Herein lies the meaning of the word “Groupage.”
As the name implies, it is a collection of LCL cargo from various shippers or consignors that is combined and shipped as a complete container load in a single freight container to various clients or consignees. Cargo consolidation or groupage operations are other names for this way of moving numerous LCL shipments.
To put it another way, groupage shipping involves the transportation of multiple LCL cargoes, each of which originates from a different port and is delivered to a different port or ports. The groupage operator will reserve a container with the shipping line based on the amount of cargo to be transported.
This container may be 20′ or 40′ in length. All customers transporting products by container will receive a House Bills of Lading from the operator after the loading of the shipment is finished. The Master Bill of Lading will subsequently be delivered to the groupage operator by the shipping company.
There will be a separate Bill of Lading for each LCL shipment that lists the consignor and the consignee. These LCL shipments are cleared and given to their individual consignees for custody after being unloaded from the ship and arriving at the destination port.
The Global Groupage shipping market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
