Engines that run on either diesel or gasoline often power traditional tractors. They also depend on hydraulic fluids for their gearbox. With the exception of one significant modification, tractors are designed to operate similarly to ordinary tractors.
Instead of using the more often used diesel engine, these agricultural vehicles are powered by electric engines. Tractors are now significantly more environmentally friendly than their diesel counterparts as a result of this breakthrough.
Farmers no longer have to use fossil fuels, which are largely unsustainable, to charge their tractors. Instead, they simply plug them into an electrical supply.
Just like an average tractor, electric tractors can be utilized for a wide range of agricultural and farming activities. This includes working on the fields, greenhouses, horticultural farms, moving produce from the field to the warehouse, and hauling goods in factories.
The fact that the operating cost of tractors is much lesser than diesel tractors means that the farmers will be able to conduct a lot more activities at a lower price point. Even the general maintenance of these vehicles is on the lower side of the spectrum.
There are many variations of tractors now available in markets around the world. Based on the design and functioning of a given model, the utility offered to farmers can be diverse.
The India Electric Tractor Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2026, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Owned by International Tractors Ltd. Sonalika Tractors is the first company to commercially release an electric tractor that is ready for the domestic market.
Sonalika's new electric tractor, dubbed Tiger Electric, has a 25.5 kWH lithium ion battery and an 11kW induction motor. It can be fully charged in 10 hours using a standard home charging outlet or in just 4 hours utilising a fast charging system.
The company claimed that Tiger Electric, positioned for farm tasks traditionally carried out by a sub-35hp tractor, could run for 8 hours while using a 2-ton trolley on a single charge.
