INTRODUCTION

Semiconductor devices known as infrared emitting diodes (IR LEDs) release infrared (IR) light when a current flows through them. They are made to emit light in the infrared spectrum, which the human eye cannot see but which may be detected by some electrical equipment or sensors. Infrared emitting diodes are important in the following ways:

 

IR LEDs emit infrared light when an electric current is supplied to the junction of the diode. The electromagnetic spectrum's infrared region, which is normally outside the range of human eyesight, contains the light that is emitted.

Operating Wavelengths: Near-infrared (NIR) through mid-infrared (MIR) IR LEDs are available in a variety of wavelengths. Mid-infrared IR LEDs generally function in the 2 to 10 micrometer range, whereas near-infrared IR LEDs often work in the 700 to 1100 nm range.

 

Control and Modulation: IR LEDs can be pulsed or modulated at particular frequencies to improve data transmission or encrypt information. Modulation enables enhanced noise rejection and IR receiver compatibility.
