JAPAN SURGICAL ROBOTICS MARKET NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

The World of Medicine and Technology Innovation: Japan's First Surgical Robot Japan is one of the top manufacturers of industrial robots, but up until the release of Medic aroid's Hino tori, the country's surgical robot development lagged behind.

The first domestically built surgical robot has been presented amid fast advancing surgical automation. A market that has been almost monopolized by foreign corporations up to now is anticipated to be disrupted by "Hino tori," produced by Medic aroid Corporation.

In August, Japan granted approval for the new surgical robot's manufacture and sale. More recently, further robotic surgical treatments had their insurance coverage authorized in December.

Four robotic arms are attached to the robot to take the position of the surgeon; the surgeon controls the robotic arms remotely.

A detailed 3D stereoscopic image is then used by the surgeon to guide the process. Medic aroid, a partnership between Sysmex Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, started working on the development of Hino tori.

Kawasaki, a pioneer in the field, created the first industrial robot in Japan, while Sysmex is a pioneer in the field of medical testing and diagnostics. Hino tori utilizes both of their technological strengths.

Robotic surgery is being used in more and more medical specialties, including gyn ecology, gastrointestinal surgery, and urology.

As of June, 28 Japanese medical facilities, including university hospitals, had used the robot. Surgery has advanced from the traditional "laparotomy" to "laparoscopy," which does not involve cutting into the abdomen.

Instead, the smallest incisions allow for the insertion of tools. Because laparoscopic surgery requires a smaller incision, less blood, and quicker postoperative recovery, it is less demanding on the patient. On the other hand, using surgical tools requires a certain level of experience and expertise.
