Switches called MIPI (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) are made to enable the connection of several MIPI-compliant devices to a single CSI/DSI, C-PHY/D-PHY module.

A small switch for handling three lanes of MIPI standard feed from embedded cameras has been introduced by Diodes. The PI3WVR628 3-lane 2:1 switch allows connections to CSI/DSI, D-PHY, and C-PHY modules at high speed (HS) and low power (LP) and dimensions 1.7 mm x 2.4 mm x 0.5 mm.
Due to its compact size, the device is appropriate for any design that incorporates numerous camera modules, including displays, tablets, laptops, and smartphones.
The need for multiplexers made to work with MIPI modules is rising as consumer device manufacturers continue to integrate more camera modules, yet the amount of PCB space still available is constrained.
Three lanes are controlled by the switch, which combines six single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches with a bandwidth of 6GHz. The D-PHY modules are organised into two data lanes and one clock lane, while the C-PHY modules are organised into two lanes.
Additionally, it has integrated control logic inputs for select and output enable. For C-PHY compliance modules, the PI3WVR628 offers data speeds up to 3.5Gbps, and for D-PHY compliant modules, it supports data rates up to 4.5Gbps.
As a result of the design freedom provided by the compatibility for both formats, manufacturers can take advantage of the PI3WVR628's low profile when employing either interface. It works with a quiescent current of 11 A (typical), which drops to a maximum of 1 A while in high-impedance mode, from a supply voltage range of 1.5 to 3.6 V.
