Morocco has a long history of manufacturing textiles, including ancient crafts like embroidery and carpet weaving as well as the creation of traditional apparel. The textile industry in Morocco creates a wide range of goods, such as textiles, home furnishings, technical textiles, and ready-to-wear clothing. It is renowned for producing apparel and fabrics of the highest calibre.
Eco-friendly methods and sustainability are becoming more and more important to the Moroccan textile sector.
This includes making an attempt to use less water, employ sustainable materials, and use ethical production methods. Moroccan textile businesses collaborate with multinational shops and brands to offer a range of clothing and textile items, making them a part of the global supply chain.
The Morocco textile market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
Two pilot projects showing the possibility of recovering textile fibres from pre-consumer textile waste from Morocco's textile and apparel industry have been launched by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). The production of textiles and clothing results in the generation of pre-consumer and post-industrial waste, which includes cutting scraps, inferior goods, spills, and other textile wastes.
High-value materials, including 100% cotton or waste that is rich in cotton, can make up as much as 56% of total waste. Nonetheless, the pre-consumer textile waste streams must be sorted and classified based on kind and quality in order to recycle at an industrial scale without sacrificing costs or quality.
With an emphasis on recovering cotton fibres and recycling textile fibres for yarns and non-woven applications, the two demonstration projects that have been identified will highlight the various processes and business models for valorizing pre-consumer textile waste in Morocco.
The first pilot project will show how to make high-quality yarns with recycled content while investigating the possibility of the local supply of pre-consumer textile waste for recycled fibres. It is being carried out in collaboration with EVLOX, a renowned Moroccan denim manufacturer and supplier to renowned European brands, such as the OTB group (Diesel). In order to support the creation of non-woven applications, the company will show the market potential of utilising nearby pre-consumer textile waste that is unsuitable for fashion-to-fashion recycling in its second pilot project.
