    MAX5952 by analog devices,for use in IEEE  802.3af-compliant/pre-IEEE 802.3at-compatible power-sourcing equipment, the MAX5952 is a quad -48V power controller (PSE).

     

    According to the IEEE 802.3 standard, this device offers powered device (PD) discovery, classification, current limit, and DC and AC load disconnect detections.

     

    With extra functionalities, the MAX5952 is pin compatible with the PSE controllers MAX5945, LTC4258, and LTC4259A. High-power mode on the MAX5952 may deliver up to 45W per port.

     

    Through the I2C interface, the MAX5952 enables instantaneous reading of each port’s current. For older PDs, the MAX5952 additionally offers high-capacitance detection.

     

    The gadget has a 3-wire, I2C-compatible serial interface and is entirely software programmable and adjustable. When a PD uses more current than is permitted, the class-overcurrent detection function allows system power management to identify it.

     

    The broad programmability of the MAX5952 increases system flexibility, allows for field diagnosis, and makes it possible to use it in different applications.

     

    The MAX5952 offers four working modes to accommodate various system needs. The device can function automatically in auto mode without any software oversight.

     

    After initial software activation, semi-automatic mode automatically recognises and categorises a device attached to a port, but does not power up that port until prompted to do so by software.

     

    The device can be completely controlled by software in manual mode, which is advantageous for system diagnostics. All operations are stopped and the ports’ power is safely turned off in shutdown mode.

     

    The MAX5952 offers power-good status, fault status, input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), input overvoltage lockout (OVLO), over temperature detection, output voltage slew-rate limit during startup, and all of the aforementioned functions.

     

    Startup timeout, overcurrent timeout, and load-disconnect detection timeout are all programmable features of the MAX5952.
