A sensor is a tool that collects physical input from its surroundings and transforms it into information that can be used by either a machine or a human to understand.
The Nigeria Sensors Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
Electronic sensors to monitor functionality and usage trends of rural water infrastructure in Plateau State, Nigeria.
Recently, 397 groundwater pumps in Plateau State, Nigeria, were watched over many months as part of a project to monitor water service infrastructure using internet-connected sensor technology.
A total of 200 of these locations were equipped with 200 hand pumps, 50 electrical pumps, and 50 cistern water level sensors, along with other remotely reporting electronic sensors.
A ground-truth of pump functionality was gathered every two months by phone calls and site visits, which included determining if the pump could supply water regardless of its intended usage.
This mismatch results from the sensors' inability to discriminate between a malfunctioning pump and an idle pump. Different trends in pump usage were seen as a function of rainfall, with cistern use increasing in response to local rainfall while electrical pump usage declined to a lesser extent.
The 200 instrumented locations and the 197 uninstrumented sites had statistically comparable repair and failure rates, according to the study.
The sensor-diagnostic system's high overall accuracy and the finding that sensor-instrumented sample sites can accurately reflect population-level breakdown and repair frequencies point to the potential use of this technology for sample-based monitoring of overall water pump functionality and water volume delivery.
However, the system's inability to discern between malfunctioning and idle pumps will restrict its capacity to start repair processes at specific pumps.
