Evonik introduces a new PEEK biomaterial for use in medical technology. For the medical technology sector, Evonik has created a novel osteoconductive polyether ether ketone (PEEK) that enhances the fusing between the bone and the implant. The specialized chemicals business is unveiling a new product line of PEEK-based implant materials of the next generation with the introduction of the novel biomaterial, which it will offer under the trade name VESTAKEEP® Fusion.
The product will be unveiled by Evonik at the online Eurospine conference. Biphasic calcium phosphate, a unique functional additive, was used to create the new PEEK material's osteoconductive properties, which enable bone cells to adhere to implants more quickly, positively influencing osteointegration at the interface between the bone and the implant.
