Blister packaging is a type of packaging that is created by heating a sheet of plastic and shaping it into shape to make a bubble or pocket known as a ‘blister’ that completely surrounds the goods. A classic blister pack features a cardboard back and is known as a face seal blister. Blister packaging is used for little things such as batteries, medications, and toy vehicles.
While most people associate blister packs with pharmaceuticals, a blister packet is anything with a plastic front and another material (typically cardboard) on the back.
The Global Plastic Blister Packaging market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
TekniPlex Healthcare has announced the creation of the “world’s first” entirely transparent, “biodegradable” mid-barrier blister package. The company claims to have created the world’s first entirely transparent recyclable mid-barrier blister package.
The mid-barrier blisters are recyclable through polypropylene recycling streams and are made up of a polyolefin blister film and a barrier PP lidding film, making it the first blister and lidding combination to be certified as recyclable. The new materials also include moisture barrier protection. Early machinability evaluations are said to be promising, with large-scale experiments planned for the near future.
“The ability to make transparent barrier blister packages recyclable is a critical step towards healthcare materials circularity, one that requires extensive research, trials, and dedication to overcome technical challenges.
They are extremely proud to be the first materials science company capable of meeting this longstanding market need, and they look forward to showcasing the new blister packages at Pack Expo.
“TekniPlex Healthcare will exhibit samples of the packaging at this year’s Pack Expo, along with another blister and lidding combination made of totally recyclable polyester and suitable for items that do not require barrier protection. According to the company, it will also exhibit a new lower-weight reinforced coated paper for medical equipment protection.
This is supposed to use TekniPlex’s patented coating formulas and application technologies to make rolls that meet sterilising criteria. It is planned to be utilised for syringes, catheters, and gauzes, among other medical applications.
