A heated glue gun or other piece of bulk dispensing equipment is used to dispense polyurethane hot melt, also known as PUR hot melt, from a cartridge or slug.
PUR hot melts are utilized in a vast array of manufacturing and assembly applications all over the world and offer a number of advantages (as well as some disadvantages).
A PUR hot melt is best described as an enhanced version of a traditional hot melt.It is inexpensive, easy to use, and bonds to a wide range of substrates.
Hot melts made of polyurethane (PUR) are being used in a growing number of manufacturing and product assembly applications all over the world.
Applications requiring strong bonds to wood, plastics, fabrics, leather, and a wide variety of other materials call for PUR adhesives.
Due to their versatility, PUR hot melts are becoming increasingly popular.PUR can be sprayed or applied as a bead to cover large surfaces.
Additionally, these adhesives are available in a wide range of open times and viscosities, making them suitable for a variety of application requirements.
PUR hot melt is not the same as conventional hot melt. The adhesive is applied to your materials and heated to a liquid state before cooling to "stick" them together, which is how it is dispensed.
However, PUR hot melt is unique in this regard.PUR hot melt changes chemically as it cools, reacting with air moisture to form an extremely strong bond.Over the next 24-48 hours, this bond will continue to strengthen until it is completely cured and extremely strong.
The Global Polyurethane Hot Melt Adhesives market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
The Lubrizol Corporationâs Engineered Polymers business has announced the launch of two new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) resins for hot melt adhesives (HMAs).
These recent developments belong to the plasticizer-free Pearlbond(TM) 300 TPU series -soft polymer solutions that stand out for their low activation temperature and excellent bonding properties to various substrates.
Lubrizolâs innovative offering for HMAs can be found in technical textiles, interlinings, apparel (seam tapes and heat-transfer labels), conveyor belts, footwear and many highly-demanding applications.
New Pearlbond 360 and 960 TPU resins perform very well in outdoor applications thanks to their excellent resistance to external agents (humidity and microorganisms). Other key features of these new developments follow below:
Pearlbond 360 TPU: A breathable, plasticizer-free soft polymer with superior wash resistance and outstanding adhesion to fabrics. This solution bonds very well at a low activation temperature (<120úC). This allows it to be combined with delicate fabrics and increases the protection of delicate substrates from heat damage.
Pearlbond 960 TPU: A light-stable, breathable and plasticizer-free polymer which combines the above-mentioned properties with optimum U.V. resistance. It is a highly durable solution with improved bonding and mechanical properties.
To further highlight the impressive HMA portfolio, Lubrizol Engineered Polymersâ has developed a new video that details how high-performing Pearlbond TPU brings things together with its design versatility and the former features.
Automotive interiors, life jackets, kitchen furniture, sportswear and other articles subjected to heavy use and hostile environments require adhesive solutions that offer high bonding strength and long-term durability that can withstand impact force and extreme temperature changes.
