Ingenious EV battery recycling facility opens in the UK To handle and recycle the anticipated increase in end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap in the UK, Manchester-based IT recycling company The SER Group has established Cellcycle, a specialised battery recycling division.
According to early estimates, the UK will recycle about 350,000 tonnes of old batteries for electric vehicles. Since the company already possesses both its Approved Battery Exporter (ABE) and Approved Battery Treatment Operator (ABTO) permits, compliance with accreditation benchmarks has already been ensured.
This makes Cell Cycle one of only a few fully accredited recycling companies in the UK qualified to treat and recycle end-of-life batteries without the need for costly exportation.
Batteries will be disassembled at Cellcycle’s facility before the mechanical and chemical recycling processes are finished.
The recyclable extracted raw materials can be fully dismantled and disassembled, and there are many uses for them. For instance, cobalt can be used in the chemical industries, lithium is recycled for rechargeable batteries, copper is used for electrical wiring, and aluminium is used for cans and foils.
