In order to completely shield a connector and cable assembly, EMC shrinkmate, rated at Mil Std R-46846, is defined as heat-shrinkable polyolefin tubing coated on the inside with Methode’s polymer thick film silver ink.

     

    The resulting assembly is said to effectively reduce EMI and RFI ingress and egress as well as penetration into the assembly by outside contaminants like dust, moisture, and oil. The EMC shrinkmate solution is also said to effectively reduce the ingress and egress of EMI and RFI.

     

    It is claimed that EMC compliant joints made with EMC shrink mate don’t need to be soldered, making it quick and simple to produce coaxial cable butt joints and cable to connector housing joints. Additionally, the polyolefin tubing asserts to resolve most issues with EMI/RFI/ESD shielding between solderable and non-solderable surfaces, such as stamped metals, plated finishes, and shielding paints.

     

    A variety of 6in lengths of 1/4in, 3/8in, 1/2in, 3/4in, and 1in ID EMC shrinkmate tubing are included in the new Methode kit. The EMC compliance kit is recommended for use in pilot production and prototyping environments in addition to testing applications, allowing production quantities to be ordered as needed later.
