Qatar is the latest Middle Eastern country to adopt a new national refrigerant policy. In response to the dramatic global increase in demand for coolants, Qatar’s Ministry of Environment announced a vision to become the first nation in the region to transition from high-global-warming-potential refrigerants to natural refrigerants.
Qatar is proposing high-efficiency, low-pollutant chillers and refrigerant systems to be implemented in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings across the country. This shift to natural refrigerants aims to reduce the direct and indirect environmental and health impacts of climate change.
Additionally, this policy will help reduce the risks associated with a decrease in supply of flammable refrigerants, which can be hazardous to personal health and safety.
Qatar’s new refrigerant policy is targeting several key areas. These include improving energy efficiency, transitioning towards the use of natural refrigerants that have zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP), transitioning towards better controlled systems with universal safety standards, and ensuring that the applicable legislation is abided by.
The government of Qatar has already started to make strides towards this goal, introducing new regulation requiring the retail trade of refrigerant gases such as HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) and HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) to be restricted and phased out over the next few years.
The Qatar refrigerant market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
Carrier, which uses United Technologies to conduct business in the State of QatarA new iteration of Carrier’s variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, called XPower, is easy to install, operate, and maintain and offers high energy efficiency ratings tailored for the light commercial and residential market.
Three Frame 9E DLN ultra-low NOx gas turbines and six centrifugal compressors will make up each MRC train.
This will allow for the supply of six gas turbines—which will power 12 centrifugal compressors—across two LNG “mega trains.”
The demand for effective and sustainable cooling solutions in sectors like food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals is driving the growth of the refrigeration market in Qatar. Temperature-sensitive goods must be transported and preserved with the help of industrial refrigeration systems.
The focus Qatar places on pharmaceutical manufacturing and food security is what is driving investments in cutting edge refrigeration technologies. The industrial refrigeration market is changing to satisfy the exacting specifications of contemporary manufacturing and storage facilities as Qatar works towards sustainable industrial practices.
The need for industrial refrigeration solutions to store and preserve perishable goods has increased as a result of Qatar’s efforts to become self-sufficient in food production and distribution.
