Natural gas or crude oil are the primary raw materials used to create conventional HMD.The sustainability of the numerous materials generated using sustainably-sourced HMD produced with Genomatica's technology can be increased because it is made from renewable feedstocks like plant-based sugars.

 

The production of renewable and sustainable nylon 6,6 involves the use of such bio-based HMD in addition to adipic acid, as opposed to traditional HMD derived from fossil fuels. The two businesses intend to take the program to its full commercial potential, and Covestro has a licensing option from Genomatica to use the integrated GENO HMD process technology for industrial production.

 

Asahi Kasei wants to employ the GENO HMD process technology to develop more environmentally friendly materials for use in items like high-temperature automotive parts, electronics, or yarns for airbag production. This will build on the innovation to generate considerable volumes of plant-based HMD.

 

In order to produce commonly used chemicals and materials with smaller carbon footprints, Genomatica develops comprehensive, integrated process and manufacturing plant designs that leverage biotechnology, fermentation, and renewable feedstocks.
